Topic proposal

In recent discussions of Global Warming, a controversial issue has been whether we should fight global warming and are we responsible for it. On the one hand, some argue that it’s a natural cause and we should not do anything. On the other hand, however, others argue that we are responsible for it and we should take actions. In sum, then, the issue is whether we should fight global warming and take responsibility or let it be.

My own view is that we should take responsibility.Though i concede that a part of the cause for global warming may have been natural causes, i still maintain that we are majorly responsible for it so we should take action. Although some might object that nothing would change because the globe is too big, i would reply that we can still do our best to try. This issue is important because that it is related globally and every single human being is involved. We are fighting because we want to create, protect and save the world and environment we live in.

  1. Side A claims “it’s part of the natural cycle and we’re not responsible.”
Side B says “we’re responsible and should do something about it.”

The thing that interests me about this debate is that Side A wants to do nothing because it thinks it is not *responsible.* But what if we lay that aside for the moment–even if they’re right, how does responsibility even factor in? The real question is “are we happy with the climate the way it is and are we willing to invest in keeping it that way?”

In my mind, what does it matter if we caused it or if Ma Nature caused it? At the end of the day, if we have the ability to help save polar bears from extinction and keep the ice caps where they are, why NOT intervene?

Either we’re cleaning up our own mess or we’re purposefully stopping nature’s cycle because we like our coastlines where they are. So why even bring “responsibility” into it?

    OK. My rant is done.

  2. How much do you think that we should do to revers the effects of global warming? If it really is a natural occurrence wouldn’t we just be inconveniencing ourselves trying to slow down what would be inevitable. Is it really a bad thing that we might be speeding up the cycle? It’s just change.
